Educational levels
1) Regular courses
The regular curriculum consists of four quarters at three levels, from beginning to advanced, of intensive teaching Korean.
- Each quarter lasts 10 weeks and offers a total of 200 hours, 20 hours per week.
2) Exchange course
The exchange course is designed to teach foreign students attending at Namseoul University and foreign exchange students who need to improve their Korean proficiency to take classes instructed in Korean.
- This course is offered twice per year and students take Korean classes for 18 hours per week.
3) Regular undergraduate classes
These classes are given credit hours for undergraduate students.
- Required class: Speaking and Writing (3 hours for 2 credit hours)
- Selective classes: Presentation & Speech, Media Korean, Reading for Current Issues,
Thinking and Expression, Korean Culture & the World
4) Afternoon Activity Classes
A. K-POP & Dance: learning to sing K-pop and dance
B. Samulnori: actual practice to learn Korean traditional music
C. Korean Drama: learning Korean with lines in Korean dramas
D. Prep for TOPIK: preparing for TOPIK with practice questions
5) Korean language class for foreign professors
- Classes can be arranged for foreign professors who want to improve their command of the Korean language.
These classes are based on their needs to better communicate with their students.
6) Tutoring program
- Foreign students or foreigners living in the community can ask for a customized tutoring session.
Based on their needs and time table, we can design a one-to-one tutoring class for speaking, listening,
writing, everyday Korean, or preparing for interviews.
7) Short-term Korean language/culture course
A two or three week program of Korean language and culture is offered to a group of students from Namseoul's partner institutions abroad including IPFW (USA), Carson Newman University (USA), Miyagi University (Japan) and Moscow University (Russia).
8) Intensive course for teachers of Korean as a foreign language
The Center runs this teacher training program in cooperation with Continuing Education Center. This program is an accredited course by National Institute of Korean Language, offering 120 hours of coursework.
Extracurricular Activities
The regular curriculum provides students with a variety of extracurricular activities and club activities as well as language classes to meet the needs and desires of students. Moreover, a set of events and programs are held throughout the year to enhance their understanding of Korean culture: field trips, special culture lectures and a graduation ceremony.
